Five years ago today

my sweet baby was placed into my arms.

What I felt at that moment was indescribable

Imagine….that feeling

multiplied every time I see

this smile.

The boy that calls me Mamy Gamy

The boy that loves to eat

The boy who sings and sings and sings.

Happy Birthday my lovey dovey.

When Monsta turned F O U R

Natural Dyeing and Violas

April 25, 2011

in family

Getting back to you on the violas we finally planted. Monsta was into the whole process for about 10 minutes. Which is pretty impresive in my book.

He held them for a shot (not smiling, of course)

He allowed me to demonstrate and took over like a pro…

Cubby held on to this sweet viola forever. It was saved and I’m proud to say that no flowers were injured during this little outing.

We dyed eggs naturally this year. Found this beautiful post and had to try.  I just happen to have all these things – how lucky!

They came out awesome. I want to try the onion skins next time. These cute little nests were really easy to make as well. I wish I remembered the site I saw them on. Three paper lunch bags, scissors and glue. Simple.

Headed over to Mom’s for a delishy dinner and the kids hunted for some eggs. She always has things set up for fun!

Learth Day

April 22, 2011

in family

No, that is not a typo.  Sometimes, Monsta likes to put L’s in words to make things funny.

“Daddy, we are celebrating Learth Day!  Ok, Slee yla later”

See how that works?

Grabbed the kids and set out to the nursery to see what kind of goodies we could find. First, stopped at a lemonade stand to quench our thirst. It was set up by these kids around the block. They also sold toys and Monsta picked out a Storm Trooper and the One eyed green guy from Monsters Inc. for his bro.

Cubby was off and running in his new kicks. He really couldn’t be stopped.

Monsta was trying to scare away the crows. You see that smile trying break through….he is trying desperately to hold character.

It was a very difficult decision. Which ones shall we choose?

Trying to look inconspicuous. I’d say he is doing a great job. Not a bird in sight.

To the finish line! He dropped a bunch a times and of course….

Big brother was there to help him up.

Laughs upon laughs. I love moments like that.

The two were turning cranky before we could plant them.  Snacks and naps it is when that happens.

Here is what we did last Earth Day.

How are you celebrating?

Handmade toy

March 16, 2011

in family,Monsta

The other day, my Father stops over after work and brings the Monsta a toy that he had just made. He went on to explain that when he was a little boy, growing up in Tlacotalpan, Veracruz, he and his friends would play with these for hours on end. I think he mentioned that they were made of wood but he provideda modern version made of aluminum.

It is a really simple concept. Stick, hook and hoop. He presented it and gave some instruction:

He showed him how it was done:

Monsta and one of his many attempts. It is very hard to do. I even tried. I think he did pretty well:

This toy with no name made my son’s afternoon.

Do I think my Father might of had more fun?

YES

Puppies and Pizza

March 9, 2011

Mom told me that a store opened up around the block from her that was called, “PUPPIES”. She said that the Monsta would love seeing all the pups in the big glass window. I actually psyched myself up for it. If you know me, then you know that I’m not that big of a dog fan so it did take a bit of psyching up. What could be bad about cute little puppies? We set out after school today to go, picking up Gram on the way.

There they were. Lots of adorable, little, fluffy puppies. They were playing and licking and toppling over eachother. Really cute stuff.

Then we went inside. Blech. The stench. It was pretty gross. Old, dirty white cribs lined the store with dogs in them. Some cute, some not. I was thinking to myself that if I was a dog person, I would never buy my puppy from this place. It gave me the creeps and the icks. The Monsta didn’t catch on to my feeling about the place and he actually did great (because he is petrified of dogs) and pet an older pup. Way to go kid!

Then off to the pizza place.

Played with Grandma’s phone while we waited and waited and waited. It seemed like forever.

Cubby finally got pissed and ordered us to go ask for the pie.

Pie came, no pics, too hungry.

Finished up with a round of, “What is that letter?”

After a week of husband working really late (company move), last night I got to see him and my parents at supper time.  How delightful.  People in the house.  Talking people.  People that I think listened to me when I spoke.  It was nice.  I made chicken and roasted broccoli and zucchini.  Buttered rigatoni on the side.  It was comfort food and I was downright comfortable.  The kids (and me) were ecstatic to have Daddy around.  We played and goofed until it was bedtime.

Here the kids are playing with Abuelito – do I have to tell you how much my Father loves that?

Today, I set out to register the Monsta in Kindergarten.  I really can’t believe that he will be going.  I think I’m going to block it out until a week before it actually starts.

Off to see the Wizard

March 7, 2011

in family

because because because because becauseeeeeee, because that how we roll around here.

Off to our second play in two weeks. Wizard of Oz this time. We trekked to Elmont – Everyone told me the drive would be the worst. It wasn’t soooo bad. The lights are like every second once you reach Hempstead Tpke., but it didn’t matter. I was behind this:

Pretty cool, eh? This kid missed it:

Poor little Monsta, only got to sleep about 15 minutes. When we got there, he was really excited to see a Magician. Yes, I lead him to believe something else but I really wanted to surprise him with one of his favorite shows. It worked. When they announced, “The Wizard of Oz”………he was so happy:

He was on the edge of his seat most of the time. Broadhollow Theater  did a fabulous job.

Monsta loved the costumes.  I liked the Tin Man the best.

The lion was his favorite. It was all very interactive with the characters running up and down the aisles.

Do you see how long Dorothy’s braids are?

Totally recommend Broadhollow. Next, I think is Cinderella. Who wants to come?

and that is all we needed to bolt out of the house for a very needed walk in the fresh air.  With all this sick going on, I couldn’t have welcomed it more.  The first thing we noticed, with all the snow melting, it made for some really cool crevices.

Monsta was fascinated that all water was now going down the huge street drains and making  a lot of noise.

There are lots of rivers on my block.

Cubby was interested as well (in his nonchalant way)

I liked this particular spot.  Can you tell?

We were about 12 feet from home and we were HAPPY!

way HAPPY.

We stumbled upon tons of acorns.  I was wondering why there were so many.  Don’t the squirrels bury them and eat them all winter?  Are there too many acorns around?  Are there not enough squirrels?  I’m thinking the latter.  I remember when I was a little girl, they used to be all over the place.  They are pretty scarce nowadays.

After we walked/stopped/biked/stopped for miles around the block, someone was pooped.

He relaxed by drawing on the driveway while Cubby…

played the game that never gets old, “Where did my cheerio go?”

When…

will the coughing stop? Goodness, it seems that the Monsta has been coughing for three weeks now. Can it be over? My little one caught whatever germ he had and now he is coughing.

Cubby is all like…

Why me?

Poor thing. It is just heart bursting when your kids are under the weather.

On the Valentine front:  I fixed all Valentines and they were handed out today.  Total success!
