What a fun afternoon I had yesterday. I met up with this adorable preemie and her sweet Mommy, Shakeria. They were the winners of the photo shoot I donated to support the wonderful website, It’s a Preemie Thing. I learned so much about preemies. Things I never knew. If you are looking for group of people that are in the same situation as you, I recommend this site to any Mother who has a preemie of their own.

Could I gobble this little one up?

Gulp!

looking back

Over the last week, I’ve been working on putting together a family book for 2010.  Yesterday, I ordered it.  I’m so excited about it that I wish it would get here this instant.  Ok, I must be patient.  While choosing the images, I came across some oldies but goodies.  Here are a couple that I thought you might enjoy.

This one was taken when we took a road trip to Albany to visit Craig’s friend from college. It was pretty cold and windy as I remember and this little clown kept turning around and playing peekaboo.

I found this one and it just screamed for a vintage edit. My little cutie pie.

Us vs. Sick

February 28, 2011

in Monsta,photography

I‘ve been so absent because sick has been taking priority around here for the last month.  It started with Monsta, then it went to Cubby (way worse), and then me.  I ended up with Tonsillitis.  Good Grief.  I battled as long as I could.  It was going on 3 weeks and then I just couldn’t take it anymore.  Why couldn’t I get rid of it on my own?  Damn antibiotics.  I felt better after one dose.  My head is clearer and things are looking up.  I’m only on day 3/10 but whatever.  I’m in it now.  The only bad thing is that Craig woke up this morning with the same symptoms I had.  Uh Oh.

Last Thursday, I took Monsta to see a Willy Wonka play at a local theater.  It was awesome to be with just him.  Easy.  I mean, I didn’t even have to carry anything with me easy.  He loved it and I sat and watched him love it.  He loves the movie and has non-stopped talked about all the differences he noticed ever since.  Like, why were the oompa loompas children and in the movie they are little adults?  How does he notice such things?  Why were their faces red when in the movie they were orange?  The questions are endless.  The best part of it is that I have been reenacting the part when Augustus falls into the chocolate river in my living room every evening.  Yes, he was fascinated how the boy fell in off the stage.  I explained to him about the orchestra pit and how it was all an illusion.  Hence the setup in the LR with the couch and trunk.  I wedge myself between the two and hold a pretend cup of chocolate.  Are you imagining this?  This really happens.  Then he plays Augustus and pretends to scoop up chocolate from the river (my faux cup).  He says how delicious it is and then completely overacts the falling in part and dives from the couch onto me (still on the floor folks).  Only three more times Mommy?  (My aching back)  Of course, sweetheart.  I’ll do anything for that kid.

When we got home he wanted to play outside.  I caught him coming in…

When he saw my camera, he went back on out.

I’m always trying!

P.S. Don’t forget to book your Spring photo session early. Spots are going……..

During breakfast this morning, I zoned out while I was eating my egg and wheat toast. I could feel the first sip of warm tea go all the way down to wherever it goes and it felt wonderful. It was a silent movie for a minute.

No sound.
Cub putting egg in his hair and smiling.

No sound.
Monsta stuffing his mouth with pancakes and syrup.

No sound.
Me, looking at them thinking, “How in the world did we get these wonderfully, happy kids?”.

I love those moments.

Today, I hope I can inspire some of you, to DO something that enriches your life. Really think about what that might be. We get caught up in the every day business of cleaning and caring for our families but sometimes WE get lost. When was the last time you read something for YOU? Have you left a project unfinished because you just don’t have the time? Have you been meaning to excercise?

When you find yourself with a few minutes today, stop everything and focus on YOU…..you might even find yourself in a nice, warm bath with lots of bubbles and a magazine. (I don’t think I’ve ever done that!)

I would love to hear about your ‘YOU minutes”.

I also want to dedicate today’s post to my friend Kristin. She is always a source of inspiration for me. Last week she posted this.  Monsta saw it and minutes later we were having fun in the kitchen.

Thanks Mainemomma!  You inspire more than you know.

Also, just want to remind everyone that the Tina Steinberg giveaway ends tomorrow at midnight.  Click here and comment – you might just win!

Sweet berries

January 24, 2011

in photography,random

My kids just adore them. Strawberries, blackberries, raspberries…..I can go on and on and on.

If you are wondering: This is one of the first bowls I ever threw. Heavy and thick but I think it has charm.

L O V I N G :
My new awesome 23″ monitor – go me!

That hubby fixed one of our heat problems in the living room. Nice work Honey.

That a beautiful shipment of photos were just delivered and I know my customer will be thrilled.

The thought that I don’t have to mess in the kitchen tonight because we are invited to my Mom’s house.

My little Cub for crawling over to show me he had a mouth full of peas. Even though they are totally fake.

That I’m trying to meet my goal of eight glasses of water a day. If someone reminded me it would be a lot easier. I just plain forget!

The feedback I’ve been getting from my current giveaway.

The laughter I hear coming from the next room.  (This should have been at the top)

I am current with my One Frame a Day project (Oh crap, I didn’t take a picture today – @#$%!). It took some time but now I’m all set. It will be really easy for me now to continue.

Camera sitting upon my knee and snapped without looking. This is what I got:

Now, more than ever, it has become really important to me to document. I know you think that I document all the time but in reality, I need something more tangible. Recording memories on this blog is wonderful and satisfying but I want more. I want to be able to look back and flip through an album or thumb through mass amounts of prints. That is what we always used to do, right? In this digital age, it has become harder to do that. For me anyways. I am taking a vow that this year will be the year that I make my first book. I have come across this idea several times over the last year and loved loved loved the idea. Well folks, I’m doing it!

I can’t pass up faces like this

or this

Who wants to join me? It is not about how great you take a photograph or how well you write, it is about having these once in a lifteime memories to look back on in years to come. I want that, do you?

In the middle of all the holiday rush, meet Baby M. She was such a delight to photograph and gave me the perfect break in between all the Christmas card madness. M and her Mama are working out all the kinks and in the process are building a very special bond. It is so nice to see all that LOVE! I know, I’m sappy but come on….look at this sweets:

My little sweets amongst the foliage…

Caught a moment in the garden…

Things have been wonderfully busy for Earth & Skye Photography so the posts here are a bit scarce. What’s going on in your neck of the woods? Doesn’t even have to be exciting news, I would just love to hear…
