Back to norm.

November 26, 2007

I hear light rain falling, classical music playing and Ben in his crib singing and making the cutest sounds I’ve ever heard.  Craig is back to work after having last week off and I’m back into my regular routine.  Ben is getting over a pretty bad cold so we didn’t go to the library this morning for his last class of nursery rhymes.  That’s ok, he gets doses of me singing all day anyway.

We are feeling good about the bathroom renovation.  We made some purchases, need to make a few more and then hopefully, mid December, it will be done.  I can’t even imagine having it finished.  I’m really excited.

Boy, do we have a lot to be grateful for.

Can you see all 3 of us? This was taken at our friends new house over the weekend. Ben was knocking on the glass to get my attention. I didn’t even notice that you could see Craig and my reflection until I got home. Cool!

The Secret

November 14, 2007

…..

A typical morning glance from my boy usually consists of bedhead, breakfast smeared on his face and eyes that look right through me.  This kid is a character, let me tell you.  When he accomplishes something grand like putting keys in a random hole on the highchair and the keys actually STAY suspended or when he takes out all the clothes I just folded from the hamper and creates some abstract fabric sculpture with them in the middle of his bedroom, he comes running to get me.  I hear his Flintstone feet getting closer and then he grabs my hand and literally drags me to the area where something fantastic has just happened.  He stands there looking at what he did and silently busting, waits for some reaction from me.  The look on his face when I shower him with praise is something I can’t describe.  It’s like Mother’s have had this secret of how incredible it is to BE a Mom and when you become one and get a look like that it makes you feel like you are the luckiest person on this earth.

Happy Birthday Melinda!

Happy Friday

It’s restaurant week this week.  Did you know that?  We love it and try to go every year.  My inlaws are babysitting tonight and Craig and I are going OUT.  I’m looking forward to it.  A little wine and little dinner - can’t pass on that!

That’s fancy for a 3 minute egg in a shot glass.  Me and Julie grew up always having this.  My Mom made them perfectly.  Firm white, runny yellow, always accompanied with a matzoh and butter and a sprinkle of salt.  Those were the days.  Well, to this day, when I have the urge for this special breakfast, I have to call my Mom and ask her, “ How do you make a 3 minute egg again?”.  She always laughs.  She tells me how to do it like I’m hearing it for the first time and then we hang up.  Later on in the day she will call me and ask, “So, how did your breakfast turn out?”.  I usually reply, “Eh, the yellow wasn’t runny.”.  Why can’t I master this skill?  Cook the egg for 3 minutes Marina!  Today, well actually last week, I made the perfect egg!  Firm, runny - it met all requirements.  I thought it was a fluke and didn’t mention it.  Today, I tried my hand again and what do you know……perfection again!  I can’t believe it.  To some, this might seem really stupid but to me, it’s the ultimate.  Imagine, I can go through life now making perect eggies.  Ben loved it too.  I’m so happy and since my day started out so well, I will share my little trick on how to do it.

Let the water boil and add a little salt.

Drop in the eggs (while boiling) and put the timer on for 4 minutes.  This is the hard part.  Don’t be fooled by the name.  I always buy large or x-large eggs and they need 4 minutes.

When the buzzer goes off you are done.

Enjoy!

No more? WHAT!!!!???

Bathroom Renovation

Well, as some of you know, we are in the process of renovating our one and only bathroom.  I will just start out by saying, “IT IS SO FREAKING HARD!”  I feel a bit better now thank you.  The tub and terlit are already chosen but we still need tile,  a vanity and fixtures (lighting, rods, mirrors etc.).  I know the work will not be finished by Thanksgiving (which we are hosting) so at least that is a load off.  I was feeling pressure to get it done before the holiday.  So now… we really just need to find the time to shop for this vanity.  I want to love it.  The ones they offer in Lowes and Home Terrible are just too ordinary or not well made.  The search is on.  Wish us luck.
