Trying to describe the feeling I get when I hear the cutest laughing sounds coming from the kitchen. I walk down the hall and peek around the corner only to find the BEST legs ever dangling from his Daddy’s arms. Tummy kisses are delicious!

I entered this shot into a contest for Photographing Children: Using textures. Winner gets Photoshop CS5. I’m keeping my fingers crossed but I never seem to have any luck with these contests. It’s fun to participate anyway.

Earth Day

April 26, 2010

in ben, david, family, garden

While Earth Day was a few days ago, I’m behind in posting the pics.  We had a tremendous day talking about all the kind things you can do to help save our planet.  Monsta likes to discuss these things.  He is always pointing out litter that we see when we go out.  He asks why did somebody throw that on the ground Mommy?  Keeping our kids aware is the most important thing we can do as parents.  They will grow up learning that Earth is our home and it has value and we don’t want people to dirty it up.  He gets that we recycle in the house but maybe I need to bring him down to the recycling center so he gets to see the big picture.  That would be an experience for him and me.

Using the dirt that they dug up from putting in our new fence last week.

Filled a pot that we got at a Spring fair up in Westchester County.

Look at me, I did it!

Planted grapefruit seeds from a grapefruit we shared months ago. It was delicious and we dried the seeds on the windowsill.

Planted zinnias in Cubby’s pot.

Add some water and wait…….

What are some of the fun things YOU did for Earth Day?

Welcome to my new squeaky fresh and clean site.  It has been a long week trying to redesign this whole thing and I’m not even close to being finished but I wanted to go live asap.  I miss you guys!  Although there are many similarities as far as content, the whole structure is different.  This new layout will allow me to basically post more “stuff”.  I will be changing pages and info forever over the next few weeks so don’t get used to what you see.  I plan on showcasing my biz, Earth & Skye Photography and even offering some giveaways to my readers.  I can’t wait for that!

Speaking of new……I want to show you what the Monsta made the other day.  I love when I witness him doing something new creatively.  He plays with playdoh all the time and usually makes funny faces with spiked hair, waffles, long rolls, a big mess….this time, he started building something very intricate.  I saw him concentrating with the tongue out and everything.  I watched quietly.  What did he turn out?  A snow man with a trunk he told me.

Isn’t it the most interesting snowman you have ever seen? I thought so. Look at those arms. I can imagine this snowman animated with those arms moving so gracefully to really cool music. I just had to capture it.

Another first: Cubby started eating! Today is his fifth day and he is soooo happy. Started with rice cereal then moved on to sweet potato. Gosh, he gets so excited when he sees that spoon. It has been hard to capture that moment though because he has been moving around so much. Craig brought down the highchair from the attic so now it will be easier for me and more controlled. It is a sight to see. Check him out:

This shot was his first viewing of the spoon. He sort of looks a bit like a deer in headlights. He warmed up seconds later though.

Well, it is Thursday (It is actually Sunday but when I posted this it was Thursday) and I must get off this darn computer because if the house is dirty on a Thursday……not good.

I want to thank you all for sticking around and visiting me. Is there anything YOU would like to see here? Any topics YOU would like to discuss? Any anything? Just putting it out there.

Happy Earth Day! (We’ll be planting bulbs and strawberries and peas today)

Three years ago, when I started blogging , I found that I take far too many pictures.  Not that there is  a limit or anything like that but I take pictures with the intent of blogging something about them.  Then, it seems, so much time goes by that I find it ridiculous talking about things that happened so long ago.  For instance, would you really want to see something snow related now that it is totally Spring?  I think not.  I am trying to post more regularly but life just seems to get in the way.  Important things have come and gone and you totally missed them.  Sorry about that.  You probably would have wanted to see when Ben was in his first play at school.  That was great!  He was so cute and did so well.  Ok, I won’t rub salt in the wound.  You are wounded right?  I’m trying to get better, I promise…did I say that already?  Anyhow, a big change to this blog will happen soon.  It is in the works now.  That is something to look forward to.  In the meantime….here is my cute cubby to make you smile.

Hose Master 3000

April 8, 2010

in ben, craig, family, house

Craig purchased a new retractable hose thingie last week. I love them. We have had several but eventually they break. It is so easy for me to just go out and water all my plants and then just push a lever and the hose automatically gets put away neatly. How can you NOT  love a thing like that? He and the Monsta hooked it up this weekend.

The installation.  In the end, it worked beautifully….I  just didn’t get a shot of that part.  Don’t you just love how that boy loves to work with his Daddy?  I love witnessing moments like these.

Banana kisses

April 6, 2010

in ben, david, garden, house

DSC_0228Six months have gone by and let me just tell you, they went by super fast! My sweet, little Cubby is a champ with one tooth already breaking through his gums. I feel another one right behind it too. It has been a sickly winter around here. Monsta doesn’t ever seem to get over these dreaded colds. He has been sporting a lovely cough for over two weeks now – good grief. I feel that the better portion of my day is telling him to cover his mouth or don’t cough in the baby’s face. It gets tiresome. The sun being out though makes us happy. We have been outside for days. I have successfully weeded all the beds, replanted my blueberry bush and replanted my herbs from the garden into pots on the deck. I have repotted ALL my african violets to cheer them up. I feel terrible for them….I just don’t have enough windows in my house to put them in. Poor little guys. What is left on my priority list is to plant some bulbs I picked up and some peas and some cosmos. Then I can move on to my regular ongoing list. It never ends but I love it!
