We arrived Friday evening to crisp, chilly air and a fire blazing in the living room. It was pretty late for the baby so we fed him and loved him a bit in his new surroundings. Shortly after, he went to sleep gazing up at the pine ceiling and listening to his music. The Monsta was exploring everything and remembering all the things he has played with in the past. The wonderful smell of chicken legs (Monsta’s request) and potatoes filled the cabin. Comfort food – ahhhhh. We sat, we ate, we drank some wine and caught up with lots of laughs with my Aunt. Ben was pretty wiped out so I brought him upstairs and told him some stories. While I was singing him some bedtime songs, he drifted off into lala land. So sweet.
The three of us ended up watching “This is it”, The Michael Jackson documentary that was made right before he passed. I found it rather interesting to see that side of him. Then bedtime.
Morning came and Craigfest was underway. The smell of bacon and eggs and buttermilk pancakes was awesome. (I <3 Craig)
Ben LOVES Craigfest and he savored every bite.
All the while, this little one chuckles at his brother’s antics.
Craig always loves being a clown so here he is in doing what he does best:
Rosh Hashanah was at our house and it was lovely. Everyone pitched in (which was totally awesome) and the dinner was really delish. Although our entire family couldn’t come, the 14 of us that were there did a lot of laughing. I mean, A LOT of laughing. I love nights like that.
Here is the Monsta dressed (before I set the table and vacuumed) (I feel the need to say that because I know you are looking at that crap on the table and the crumbs on the floor).
Here is my challah bread before it was baked:
And after:
Now you know why there are crumbs on the floor. Ben was begging for a piece of bread.
I gave in!

This is random but we just watched Twilight and New Moon having never read the books and I really liked them. Now I’m really wanting to see the third. What is up with that? Is it a modern day Romeo and Juliet? Who knew I’d be hooked on Vampire Romance.
Things have evolved around here and it is wondrous. The Monsta has transitioned jumped right into the skin of, is it possible to say, an even more amazing boy. He started school again and on the very first day, something was different. My boy is very imaginative (which I totally love) but on this day, he wanted to put this “idea” he had down on paper. Folks, that is big. I mean really big. It wasn’t me saying, “Hey Ben, you want to color with me?” or “What should we make today?”….It was him, full of words, telling me, “Mommy, I have this I idea about a robot that had this long tube that sucked up dirt and bad people and etc. (it was pretty detailed). When we got into the door he ran to his desk to draw. It was really unbelievable. He drew and drew and drew and then told me all about it. Of course it is hanging on his wall now.
The brain is a wonderful thing. His sense of exploring….
coupled with loving guidance….
has built a new confidence in him that is as bright as the sun.
On this first day of school, after the whole “idea”, he said he could write the letter “P” and “H”. Well, on the the magnet board in the car, he did it! He showed me in the rear view. I was stunned! He never had much patience for letter writing or drawing much. When we got home, after the “idea” thing, I asked him if he was interested in writing B E N. He said, “YES”. The boy did it! He just copied me and did it. Now he is writing his name all over. It is on my driveway in chalk and on my fridge. I love it! I love the fact that I never pushed him to do it and that it was just his time. I know a lot of parents want to boast about how their kid can do whatever it is before the age of two but come on…….my kid lives, experiences and learns at his own speed and it makes my heart do a little dance.
This kid can make you laugh and he does all day long. Can he stay this way forever? Of course not, but I am enjoying watching him grow.
